Still trying to impress…

My maternal grandparents got married in 1965 so they are coming up on their Golden Anniversary soon! So as of this year they’ve been married for 47 years people…we’re talking FOR-EVER!!!

A few months ago they came to stay with us for a few days and I got up early to go running (btw: that only lasted that day) and my grandma decided to join me! We ended up doing just a brisk walk since she didn’t have the proper shoes but we did run just a bit towards the end.

We had a brief conversation right before we walked into the house…

Grandma: “Make sure you tell your granddaddy what I did”
Me: “Why grandma, are you still trying to impress him?” (I asked this jokingly)
Grandma: “I sure am, so make sure you tell him!”
I laughed a little at first, but then I got to thinking about it. After 47 years she still wants to show him what’s she’s got. I was, and still am, blown away by that.  Mainly because in today’s society couples get divorced as if it’s just a regular breakup versus a covenant made before God!

I know for a fact that my grandparents have gone through some trying times together but the point is that they stuck it out, no matter what! I see how they still care for each other after all this time and it’s very encouraging as there aren’t many marriages that I can personally look up to as an example.

So today, as I head out on my first day of training for my couch to 5K program, I will be keeping my mind fixed on Mr. Pharr…this is only year one for us…but I’ve got to keep on trying to impress him, now and for the rest of my life!!!

These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children, to live wisely and be pureto work in their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of GodTitus 2:4-5 (NLT)

What a great thing to post about. Reminds me of my momma when my daddy was in the hospital. She ran out to the pharmacy to buy hair dye. I was like, "mom can't that wait."

"No sweety, I want to look good for your daddy"

They had been married about 45 years at that point.

I LOVE this! Thanks for sharing- just imagine how much better we'd all be if we took the attitude of still trying to impress our husbands like that!

What a great Bible verse to accompany. My grandparents celebrate their 64th anniversary this year. They astound me everyday. Recently my husband said he'd like our marriage to be like theirs.

That is the sweetest thing ever! What a great example to us all to keep the love alive and strong.

How fun! I think that's so important to always care about what our spouse thinks of us.
