When it comes to food Maddie loves three things:
Bananas…more bananas, Multi-Grain Cheerios and this OATMEAL (sometimes w/ bananas)!
I’m too giddy that she has taken a liking to oatmeal because she’s a wee bit on the small side. Not in my opinion since I’m guessing she’s inherited her father’s metabolism (no matter what or how much he eats he never gains weight…ever)! But, her pediatrician(s), with their charts and percentages, felt she was underweight at her six month checkup. So we were tasked with fattening her up.
We were opposed to many of their suggestions, but one we did agree on was oatmeal, and only if it was homemade…
Ingredients
1 cup – Purified / Nursery Water
1/2 cup – 100% All Natural Whole Grain Oats
3/4 tsp (+/-) – Brown Sugar
1/4 tsp (+/-) – Cinnamon
(Breast)Milk – As desired
(+/-) Add more or less, as desired |
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Bring water to a boil
Add oats and cook for 5 minutes
Pour into a bowl
Add sugar & cinnamon, then stir
Top with (breast)milk

So simple right?!? Plus it’s so easy to change up by adding apples instead of sugar, bananas instead of cinnamon, you know, whatever the little fancies at the moment! It did take several a couple tries to get a consistency and taste that she would accept. But now I can hardly give it to her fast enough. She seriously gets upset with my slowness!
She even got a thumbs up at her nine month checkup (go Maddie 🙂)!!!

They are using the WHO weight chart right? Turns out our Ped was using the CDC's chart (which EXPLICITLY states NOT to use until 2) so we heard "underweight, underweight" for months until I presented them with the fact they were using the CDC charts and then, shockingly we went from 3% to 50% in a month…
