Today’s topic: Birth Stories & Birth Plans!
Our birth story is quite unique (as I’m sure everyone says), but really it was a wild time in our lives! I told our story in a series leading up to Maddie’s first birthday in five (yes five) parts From Pregnancy to Birth!
Feel free to read one or all, but in a nutshell…
- May – It’s Mario’s birthday (Maddie was born in Feb, you do the math)!
- July – We discover we’re pregnant, oh joy!
- Sept – We’re having a girl and decide to name her Madison!
- Oct – I lose my mother to cancer two months after she’s diagnosed…Lynn becomes Maddie’s middle name in honor of her.
- Dec – I get into a crazy car accident where I run into a semi-trailer (i.e. 18-wheeler) totaling my car, obviously me and baby survived so we go on a luxurious Babymoon to calm me down from all of the above.
- Feb – I’m induced w/ the Foley Balloon Catheter procedure and after ~28 hours of prodding, poking and contractions galore I have ~15 minutes of active labor, and just like that our greatest creation, Madison Lynn, is born!
I told you our story was wild…definitely a bittersweet time in my life that I will never forget!
Oh and I had a crazy detailed birth plan too! It included the following sections:
- Labor
- Anesthesia/Pain Medication
- Cesarean Section Delivery
- Perineal Care
- Delivery
- Immediately after the birth
- Newborn Care
- Postpartum Care
- Breastfeeding
- Additional Note(s)
Click {here} to view our actual plan! I think it’s good to get your thoughts down so that you and your doctor can have an idea of how you’d like things to go. You may or may not use it but it definitely makes you feel like you’re in control!
So that’s that! If you’d like to participate in the coming weeks the topics are as follows, so be sure to link up with Kaitlyn and Jennifer:
Friday, May 3: Bringing Baby Home / Surviving the First Few Weeks

I'm a few months late on this…but I am super passionate about birth! 🙂 I had a traumatic experience with an unnecessary and unexpected c-section that sent me into a bit of a depression. Anyway, if you ever do this link up again I will be sure to hop on board! -Andrea http://www.handandtheheart.com
Oh wow, Andrea, I'm sorry to hear that. I'd love to read about your story. Heading to your blog now…
