My very first best friend, who is still a great friend to this very day, was actually a guy! His name is Zab and I met him in first grade and we’ve been friends ever since. Once we got to middle school (sixth grade) he starts dating some girl, named Shantia. I hated her! Not because I actually hated her, but because I felt like she was stealing my best friend. Then to top things off, rumor had it that she told people that me and the girl I was siting across from during the AG (academically gifted) test were cheating and I’m no cheater!!!
To clear things up Zab had us meet and talk it out and turns out, she wasn’t all that bad. I actually thought she was pretty cool. Zab seems to think that the beginning of my friendship with her was pretty much the end of his relationship with her. We became the best of friends and quite inseparable from 6th grade on. Every weekend was spent at her place and I even ended up living with her and her family my junior and senior year of high school (but that’s a whole story in itself)!
We’re both recently married now and have grown and changed so much, and have even felt a little distant from each other at times. But, she’ll always, always hold a special place in my heart! Even when we’re old and gray and shouldn’t be putting best in front of the word any more, she’ll forever be considered my very best friend!
