I’m going to be a busy girl for the month of may with my Mayathon, the photo a day challenge (follow me on Instagram (@pharraway) for the deets), the 30 Day Squat Challenge and this…
I probably will not do this EVERY day; since I have a few posts scheduled for the month of May already, but we’ll see! I’ll definitely be doing as many as I can.
Now on with it…
Day 1, Wednesday:
The story of your life in 250 words or less!
I always tell people that I was raised by a strong single black women often forgetting that she was actually married for most of my life. I suppose from my perspective she just carried the weight of our family as if she was doing it alone and I helped in any way that I could being the oldest (w/ two younger brothers). We didn’t have much growing up, but man, we were filled with so much love! My father, well, we’ve been somewhat estranged for as long as I can remember yet I still constantly seek to make him proud, for reasons unknown.
Then there’s school which was a breeze for me until I got to NCSU and realized that I never learned how to study properly. I was there to meet my husband although I didn’t know it at the time. I received my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering on May 10th and started my career on May 19th in 2008 and actually made a pretty great living. Then in 2011 my life changed forever! I found out I was pregnant in July followed by my mother being diagnosed with Lymphoma in August and lost her in October. This changed my perspective on life and love in unimaginable ways. Our daughter, Madison, was born in February 2012 and I became a SAHM. We bought a house in May and got married in June 2012, doing things somewhat “out of order”, I suppose. This hardly scratches the surface of my story and all I’ve been through but in the mist of my trials and tribulations I recognize that I still have so many reasons to have joy and I do my very best to seek it daily!
What’s your story?!?
I saw this challenge yesterday am am thinking about getting in and caught up! I am a new follower! I am hosting today at http://www.frugalfitfamily.com and would love for you to swing by and share! and happy early anniversary BTW!
You so should, Heather! The prompts are great and open you up a bit to your community. Thanks so much for stopping by and for the early anniversary wishes! It just hit me that it's right around the corner (somehow I missed that when I wrote this post…OMG)!!!
I need to get in on this May posting! Love learning more about you and your precious family, friend!
Yes, ma'am! Such awesome prompts! Thanks for your kind words as well, Kalyn, you're too sweet!!!
Things we have in common: my dad was diagnosed with lung cancer in March of 2011 and died in October of that year. And I too realized that I had no clue how to study until I went to college. I still don't know how – I'm surprised I made it through college.
Losing her so quickly after being diagnosed made it even harder as I'm sure you understand. I also still don't know how to study nor am I good test taker and somehow I made it through too :)!
You and I are a lot alike. It's amazing what motherhood does to us! Strong and independent is still there though!
I can tell 🙂

I'm finding that to be the case for a lot of bloggers (a lot alike)…it's so refreshing! And being strong and independent is certainly still there. My husband can definitely attest to it :)!!!
That's a lovely story 🙂 I too, was raised by a strong mother. Mothers are very inspiring people.
