Hello, my friends! Guess who’s no longer a SAHM….
Guess!
It’s me!!! Ok, maybe my title gave it away but last Monday was my very first day at work!
The Back Story: We had Madison in February of 2012, I took a three month maternity leave after she was born, went back to work for about six weeks then decided to leave for good to be a full time SAHM in June. Once we decided that I would stay at home we set a goal of at least one year. So, once Summer 2013 came around we started thinking about what we wanted for the next few years of our lives and figured that it would be in our best interests for me to return to work.
The Job Search: Mid-July I put my resume out there thinking that it would probably take a few months before I found something. I reached out to some friends who were consultants that I had connected with at my previous job and sent them my resume. After two weeks of looking for a job I received a phone call from a recruiter at the consulting firm where one of my good friends currently works. That day the recruiter setup a phone interview with the managing partner. I made it through that interview and was asked to come into the office for a formal interview…scheduled for the next day! All went well and by the following week an offer letter and benefits package arrived in the mail!
Favor: Talk about a seriously fast process! Finding a job these days does not happen this fast folks, check out my best friend’s crazy job search experience to see what I mean (beyond happy for her big move and new job!!!), so I feel extremely blessed to have this opportunity and have it happen as quickly as it did. I must say that the saying “it’s not what you know, but who you know” is beyond true in my case. Every job that I’ve ever gotten since I was 16, and I mean every single one, has been obtained because I knew someone at the company and they helped me get my foot in the door.
I must say I’m really excited about working again. I was definitely ready and I believe this change will be good for Madison as well. I have a lot to share with you in the coming days as I’d like to talk about how my first week at work went trying to manage as a working mom. I also want to have the debt talk and share with you our plans for getting out of it!
Posts may be a little scarce around these parts as I adjust to being a working mom, and all the responsibilities that come along with it, but please know that I’m not going anywhere. I love documenting our lives for my family and friends, and sharing with this wonderful community. So hang in there with me as I make this transition and wish me luck on my new journey :)!
Congratulations! Have a great week!
Thanks, it's been pretty good thus far!
Congrats again!!! Favor…awesome!
Thanks, Aunt-T! It certainly is!!!
Congrats!!! Can't wait to hear how things are going!
Thanks, Kathryn! Things are going extremely well, I can't wait to share the details with everyone!
Congrats on the new job!!
Thanks, Leah!!!
I want more details!! Where are you working…and where is Madison going? You look beautiful in this picture. Good luck with everything…can't wait to hear about!
Ha! I'm going to fill everyone in bit by bit, so stay tuned :)!!! Madison is going to Kindercare starting on next week. These past two weeks she's been staying with one of my SAHM friends. Thanks for the compliment and well wishes!
Congrats and good luck!
Thanks, Holly!!!
You are obviously just awesome to have gotten a job so fast. I guess it was meant to be. Congrats and good luck with your adjustment back to working mom.
I won't toot any horns or anything (toot toot, lol) but I will say that it definitely feels like this is what I'm supposed to being doing at this time in my life. Getting the job and everything that I had to do to make that transition (i.e. like finding childcare so quickly, etc.) has definitely fell into place. So I'm totally thrilled with the path I'm on right now. Thanks so much for your well wishes!!!
Oh yeah!! LOL…I never did get around to writing that job search post…it's still in draft form!! LOL…but I'm loving this post. You got right to the point of things and it wasn't long at all. I just felt like I couldn't get my story as short as I wanted it to be!! I'm very excited for you and what this means for your family and I look forward to the future posts named here!!!!!!
I know it! I know you're just as busy as I am so I'll give you a pass :)! I definitely need to find some time to sit down and crank out the posts I have listed here and the others I have brewing in my head ever since I started back working…don't want to lose those ideas.
Anyway, I can't wait to read your different tales over the next few weeks as well!!!
Wow, I literately also got hired last Monday and started working last Wednesday. The transition is crazy, isn't it? Looking forward to hearing what you have to say about going from a SAHM to Employed Mom.
Congratulations to you too, Lisa!!! The transition is definitely crazy, to say the least! These past few nights I've been trying to figure out how I can get everything done. I'm definitely going to have to create and stick to a schedule in regards to the chores and other things. It's a work in progress at this point but I know I'll figure it all out. I hope all is going well for you as you transition too!
Ok Nicole. For real we are the sisters from different mothers(sounds so much cooler when guys say "brothers from different mothers":)) what's again crazy is that I'm on a serious job search. I got a headache from looking, applying, changing cover letters, and so on:) I decided to take a break to visit my blog and yours:) and I saw this! I'm so happy for you! May God bless you and your transition. I hope you will fill us in on the balance of work and home which I guess will soon be the theme of my blog also:) Congrats and your hair still looks cute!
Lol, I say sister from another mister! Thanks so much for the well wishes!!! Although I didn't have to look for long those few weeks that I was looking I felt overwhelmed and exhausted trying to update everything based on the job I was applying for, so I totally get what you're saying. I finally decided to take a break and that's when I thought to reach out to some of my contacts…and you know the rest! So, I pray that you are able to make the connections that you need to get your foot in the door in the near future!!! God will bless you in due time :)!!! Thanks again and I can't wait to hear your back to work stories!
Congratulations working lady 🙂
Thanks, Angie, I'm so excited!!!
Congratulations and good luck – I'm sure you'll do great! I'm switching jobs next week; leaving a job I've had for 16 years to working from home. Exciting and scary all at the same time!
Thanks, Gwen!!! Well look at you, that's a big move considering how long you've been with the previous company. I wish you nothing but success as you make this transition. Enjoy every bit of it :)!!!
Congratulations! I hope your first week is a great one!!
Thanks, Rebecca! I've had an incredible experience thus far!
WOW- Nicole- You are blessed to have found a job so quickly. Can't wait to read how Maddie is taking all this!! Love u guys~~~~~~
I agree, Hattie, it's VERY rare these days, but God is SO good and I can't help but give Him all the credit! Maddie is doing pretty well at this point since she doesn't start daycare until the week of labor day. As of right now she's either been with Mario (on his days off) or she's been with Lindsay (who she adores) so it's been easy breezy so far. I'll keep you posted once she starts daycare! Love you too :)!!!
Congratulations and best of luck Nicole!
Thanks, Krista, I really appreciate it!!!
Congratulations on the new job!
Trust me, I know how frustrating and hectic the job search can be. I'm currently going through the frustration myself!
Best wishes!!!
Thanks, Rachel!!! I pray that you are able to find something soon!
Congrats and best wishes!! Being a mommy is hard whether you work from home or go to the office. You guys know what is best for your family situation – I am a working mommy and we are working to get out of debt too…I am curious to see your plans!!!

Exactly, Amber! My role as a SAHM definitely had its challenges but working is just as crazy. Trying to coordinate schedules and get yourself and the litte(s) ready, continuing to eat at home and keep the house in order…its a LOT! I know it can be done so I have to figure out how to make things work by prioritizing appropriately and letting certain things go (if necessary) and being totally ok with that! I can't wait to share more with everyone (as soon as I find the time, lol). I've been working on our debt plan for some time now so I can't wait to share!
Congrats on the new job! That had to be a hard decision! Your little girl is too precious and I bet she will love seeing you even more at the end of the day now. 🙂
